Where to Sample France’s Finest Wines for Free This Fall

Stop by one of these 5 participating DC locations to sample and learn about Languedoc wines.

Where to Sample France’s Finest Wines for Free This Fall
Tweet Share

This September and October, France’s Languedoc region–the largest wine producing region in the world–is bringing its finest wines to Washington. The L’Aventure Languedoc campaign, aimed at celebrating the region’s diverse offering of wines, is hosting a series of wine tastings throughout September and October at several DC locations. Stop by one of these five stores to sip, enjoy, and discover all that Languedoc has to offer (including red, white, rosé, sweet and sparkling wine). While every participating location will feature a different selection, you’ll be sure to sample something that’s high quality and authentic.

A neighbor to the acclaimed Provence region, Languedoc AOP wines are an accessible discovery of value, quality, and character, reflecting the elements from which they come. The wines are blessed by an auspicious blend of natural factors, including abundant sunshine, warm temperatures, and the bordering Mediterranean Sea. Thanks to the variation in climate and soils and the multitude of grape varieties they support, all styles of wine are produced here. Languedoc AOP wines’ greatest strengths are their value and strong quality to price ratio – the perfect table wines for everyday drinking.

Want to sample these awesome, affordable wines, but live outside the District? There are several free tastings in Maryland and Virginia locations too. Check out the interactive map below for a full list of participating accounts. For more information on the wines, region, L’Aventre Languedoc promotion, and to see a full schedule of tasting events, visit http://languedocadventure.com/.

Calvert Woodley Fine Wines & Spirits

Say hello to the weekend with a happy hour wine tasting in Woodley Park on Friday, September 8th and Friday, September 29th from 4:30pm – 7:30pm. With more than 30 Languedoc wines in stock, this tasting is sure to offer something for everyone. Want to take a bottle home for dinner? Try the Chateau de Luc AOP Corbières, a blend of Syrah, Mourvèdre and Carignan, it has a spicy nose but a soft, fruity palate!

4339 Connecticut Avenue NW

Paul’s Wine & Spirits

Spend a Saturday afternoon pretending you’re in the South of France, not Tenleytown, on September 16th from 1pm – 4pm, and again on October 14th. The wine and spirits store sells red, white, rosé, and sparkling wine from the Languedoc region. To continue your time travel from home, try the 2015 Domaine Reine Juliette – AOP Picpoul de Pinet “Terres Rouges.” It’s a zippy, vibrant white that pairs well with seafood.

Whole Foods

The newly-acquired Amazon chain is bringing a taste of the Languedoc region to three of its DC locations in September and October. Stop by the Foggy Bottom location on Friday, September 15th from 4:00pm – 8:00pm and on Friday, October 6th from 4:00pm – 7:00pm for a complimentary tasting; the P Street store on Saturday, September 9th and Saturday, September 23rd from noon – 3pm; and the Tenleytown location on October 14th from 3pm – 6pm.

Interested in taking a bottle home? Try Castelmaure Vin Gris Rosé AOP Corbières – Like it’s neighbor, Provence, Languedoc produces some fantastic rosé wines. If you can’t quite let go of summer, grab a bottle of this and keep the good memories flowing. A great sipper on a hot day and a delicious picnic wine. Or, if you’re ready for fall, try a bottle of Terrasses de Frigoulet AOP Coteaux du Languedoc – A big and powerful red to jumpstart your cool fall nights. Breakout the slow cooker and enjoy the dark chocolate notes that pervade the finish of this wine.
