The Best Place to See the Fall Foliage

Labor Day is behind us, the kids are back in school, the days are getting shorter and there’s a nip in the air. Fall will soon be upon us and at Wintergreen Resort that means the Blue Ridge Mountains will change from summer’s lush greens to shades of red, yellow and gold! While each season offers its own beauty, autumn is the most colorful and with 10,000 acres of colorful trees. Wintergreen specializes in finding great ways to see the foliage whether you want to hike, take in the local culture, or simply relax. Here’s what you need to know to plan the ultimate fall getaway (plus, some pretty fabulous fall travel deals!):

Things to Do:

Hike! There’s no prettier time to hike than fall and Wintergreen has 30 miles of hiking trails. These trails cover an assortment of terrain from rugged and steep to short and easy, and all are beautiful.

Hit the golf courses! With two courses – one at the top of the Blue Ridge and one at the bottom with the mountains as the colorful backdrop – just try to keep your eye on the ball.

Top of the World Tennis! Crisp fall temps and beautiful foliage will only enhance your game.

Explore! Further afield, spend a day touring the 21 orchards, wineries, cideries, and award-winning breweries around Nelson County, Virginia.

Drive! The Blue Ridge Parkway boarders Wintergreen and offers miles of colorful views.

Events

Columbus Day Weekend – October 6-8
Scenic chairlift rides, cake donut and apple cider social, family movie, and the final race in the Tread & Trail Series.

Harvest Fest – October 27-29
Celebrate the bounty of the season with a Halloween twist. Pumpkin carving, cookie decorating, fun around the campfire, and movies – it will be spooktacular!

Thanksgiving Weekend – November 22-26
The holiday season begins with traditional feasting, the grand illumination of the courtyard, holiday workshops and family fun. Plus our new tradition, the Be Thankful 5K – it’s a great way to work off the feasting.
