While it’s rare that DC’s famed nightclub Echostage opens its doors before 9 pm, the venue will make an exception on Sunday, February 18th for UTOPIA, a Yoga and Dance experience unlike any other. The event will start with an all-level Yoga class and end with a three-hour dance party led by a group of the best DJs and live musicians in the game. In other words, it’s not your typical Sunday Yoga class. Sound like something for you? Read on.
UTOPIA is a collaboration between Exclusively Entertainment owner Iman Huschmand and Yoga instructor Sally Gee. The idea was to use Huschmand’s talented roster and incorporate live musicians into Gee’s Yoga Session — bringing “the best of their separate worlds into one.” The result is a unique event that will gather a group for Yoga and dance, all under one roof. A place where, in the words of the organizers, “Everything is perfect. Where Yoga meets Dance. Where all nationalities are welcome, and international music is celebrated.”
UTOPIA will kick off with a Yoga session led by Gee and Atticus Bhava. Yoga has been a part of Gee’s life ever since she took her first class in her home country of Iran back in 2001, and she has since been inspired by the likes of instructors such as Rachel Brathan and Jafar Alexander. Bhava leads a DC-based collective that incorporates human connection, yoga, and healing, and organizes Ecstatic Dance meetups.
By 2:30 pm, the group will transition from Yoga to dance, with three different DJs from Exclusively Entertainment as well as live musicians and performers setting the soundtrack for the rest of the afternoon. Manning the stage will be DJ Biks, the official DJ of Jay Sean, whose style blends world music, hip-hop and house fusion, as well as DJ Enferno, whose impressive resume includes being the official DJ for Madonna’s Sticky and Sweet tour. DJ Saam, a local veteran and crowd favorite, will also be there to keep the dance floor buzzing along side live sax, cello, violin and speciality performers.
Guests that attend both the Yoga and dance portion of the event will receive access to an open juice bar, a bottle of doTERRA essential oils, and enjoy sandwich bites, fruit, and bottled water from Sweet Leaf Cafe.
