On Friday, April 28 Politics and Inclusion hosted its 2nd Annual Dinner co-hosted by CNN’s Abby Phillip and ColorComm Founder & CEO, Lauren Wesley Wilson. The invite only dinner is the first of its kind to celebrate established journalists of color and rising stars during White House Correspondents’ Weekend.
This year’s Politics & Inclusion Dinner welcomed new notable host committee members – Gayle King, Cecilia Vega, April Ryan, Jonathan Capehart, Eugene Daniels and Rachel Scott and more.
The evening began with a private reception featuring signature cocktails provided by Moët Hennessey USA, named in honor of the co-hosts, the “Downtown Abby” for Abby Phillip and the “L-Dubya-Dubya” for Lauren Wesley Wilson.
As the evening progressed, guests enjoyed the smooth sounds of jazz with a live saxophonist, while they dined on a three course meal prepared by chef Nick Stefanelli at Masseria, a Michelin starred restaurant.
The intimate invite-only dinner of 50 guests allowed journalists from across networks to convene, engage in dialogue and build genuine relationships.
Daily Show Correspondent Roy Wood Jr., 2023 White House Correspondents Dinner host, Laura Jarret, Sunny Hostin, and Kim Godwin, were among guests in attendance.
The Politics & Inclusion Dinner also served as an opportunity to inspire the next generation of leaders. This year Politics and Inclusion sponsored two ColorComm HBCU NextGen Fellows to participate in the Politics and Inclusion Dinner.
ColorComm NextGen HBCU Fellows Program welcomed students from Howard and Hampton University with the focus of introducing students to the journalism world and to provide mentorship.
Google, Walmart and Moët Hennessey USA were sponsors for the Politics & Inclusion Dinner.
