The blooming of cherry blossoms and the rising temperatures herald a new season in this part of the world: wedding season. And while some people enjoy the springtime social media flood of wacky photo booth pictures and cottagecore table settings, for many others wedding season brings only the prospect of awkward family gatherings, uncomfortable shoes, and maybe even some unwelcome evaluation of our own lives. Either way, Studio Theatre’s newest show, At the Wedding, tells a story we can all relate to.
Carlo has crashed her ex-girlfriend’s wedding with three goals: Don’t get drunk. Don’t make any kids cry. And don’t try to win back the bride. But what kind of comedy would it be if she succeeded? To add insult to injury, her ex, Eva, is marrying a deeply boring guy who typifies everything Carlo is not. Emotionally flailing, existentially uncertain, and increasingly inebriated, Carlo teeters on the brink of wreaking havoc.
But Carlo isn’t the only elephant in the room. Everyone at this wedding seems to be doing their own precarious balancing act. Turner introduces us to a cast full of extraordinary characters as they confront loneliness and estrangement and try to kindle a slow-burn romance with being alive.
So RSVP today for the smartest comedy of the season and join us At the Wedding at Studio Theatre.
