The house listed for $1,200,000 and has an artist's studio with vaulted ceilings. Shreve, who founded the MFA program in creative writing at George Mason University, writes adult and children's fiction.

Peter Barton Hutt bought a four-bedroom townhouse on Fairfax Street in Old Town Alexandria for $2,220,000. The home, which listed for $2,450,000, was built in 1775. It has six fireplaces and a gourmet kitchen. Hutt is senior counsel for the law firm Covington & Burling.
