BGR the Burger Joint Opens Monday in Tysons Corner

And attention, competitive-eating types: The Bethesda location holds a slider-scarfing contest on September 18.

Ask anyone who lives and/or works in McLean or Tysons Corner: A restaurant opening in the area is always exciting news. Especially when said restaurant serves giant, juicy grilled burgers made with dry-aged beef. Bethesda-based burger mogul Mark Bucher will open the newest location of BGR the Burger Joint—there are already more than 20—in the Tysons Corner Center on Monday, August 27, a company rep confirms.

And
there is other BGR news. While the chain is best known for its extra
large beefwiches, it also serves easy-to-eat cheddar-topped sliders on
potato rolls. BGR will host a slider-eating contest at its Bethesda
location

on September 18. The grand prize—$500 and a chance to participate in a
national competition—goes to the iron-gutted gladiator who eats the most
sliders in ten minutes. The second- and third-place contestants will
receive a $250 and a $100 gift certificate to BGR, respectively. The
competition begins at noon on the 18th; the national finals will take place on May
28, 2013, otherwise known as National Hamburger Day. If you think you’ve got
the stomach for it, e-mail dcmetrobgrcontest@gmail.com with your
name, age, address, and an explanation of why you’d like to spend ten
minutes attempting to gullet as many small hamburgers as possible.

BGR the Burger Joint. 8090L Tysons Corner Center, McLean; bgrtheburgerjoint.com. Open daily from 11 to 10.
