Great Takeout: The Italian Store

A sandwich for dinner? The hefty Philly-style subs at this sprawling takeout/specialty grocery aren’t just for lunch—and they’re the best reason to stop by. Our favorites, the Capri and the Milano, are made with such fixings as delicately flavored prosciutto and zesty salami. Most subs are $6.99 for a small—which will satisfy all but hungry-man appetites—and $7.99 for a large. Call ahead to avoid the line.

Sandwiches aren’t the only draw: A refrigerated case in back has well-made ready-to-heat-and-eat entrées including baked ziti, chicken cacciatore, and eggplant Parmesan ($6.99 to $7.99 a pound). During the Christmas season, look for traditional imported Italian holiday sweets.
