The new Franklin Road location sells artsy and luxe items for dogs and cats and has a self-serve dog wash. The Wilson Boulevard shop is now a grocery store, with premium food and treats.

Animal Exchange, 605 Hungerford Dr., Rockville; 301-424-7387; 424pets.com. In addition to supplies for all types of pets, the shop sells locally raised small mammals and birds. Also boarding and clipping for birds.

Booth Feeds, six Virginia locations including Manassas, McLean, Warrenton, and Lorton; boothfeeds.com. Besides cat and dog food and supplies, Booth sells feed for horses, birds, and livestock. Popular with the Great Falls horse community.
