Annual Easter Egg Hunt at Meadowside Nature Center, Rockville
Rock Creek Regional Park’s Meadowside Nature Center has egg hunts throughout the day on April 10. Kids ages 2 through 12 can search for hard-boiled eggs and, after the hunt, dye and decorate them. The hunts begin every half hour starting at 10 AM, but time slots are filling up fast. Reserve a spot ($7 per child) here.
Bunnyland at Butler’s Orchard, Germantown
Butler’s Orchard, a farm with more than 300 acres of fruit, vegetable, and flower crops, hosts this annual bunny-themed festival, featuring egg hunts, hay rides, bounces, pony rides, face painting, and more. Food vendors will be on hand with hot dogs, popcorn, and lots of goodies. Bunnyland will be open from 9 to 3 April 9 through 11, 13, 18, and 19. Admission is $7 for kids, $5 for adults. If the weather is questionable, call ahead at 301-972-3299 to make sure Butler’s is open.
Eggstravaganza at Tudor Place
On April 11, Georgetown’s Tudor Place will host an egg hunt and roll for kids of all ages. There will also be egg decorating—just be sure to bring your own hard-boiled egg and spoon—and photo ops with the Easter Bunny. Gates open at 10, but the egg hunt begins at 10:30 and the egg roll at 10:45. Tickets are $7 for children of Tudor Place members, $10 for nonmembers, $3 for adult chaperones. Easter Egg Hunt at Ida Lee Park, Leesburg
On April 4, kids under age eight can hunt for candy-filled eggs throughout the day at Ida Lee Park. The hunts start at 1 with the one-year-old group and run every 20 minutes for consecutive age groups; kids ages six and seven round out the hunt at 2:40. A parent can assist kids under age three. Admission is $10 in advance, $12 at the gate; parents and children over the age of seven who aren’t hunting get in free. Gates open at 12:30, and the festivities will be held rain or shine. Easter Egg Hunt at Morrison House
As part of its regular Story Time Tea program, this Alexandria hotel is hosting a special Easter party and egg hunt on Saturday, April 11. The event will include a reading of The Tale of Peter Rabbit; a make-your-own Easter basket project; a spread of candy, treats, tea, and sandwiches; and an indoor/outdoor egg hunt throughout the main level of the hotel and in the courtyard. To get adults in on the action, one golden egg will be hidden, containing a gift certificate for an overnight stay and dinner for two at The Grille. Easter Monday at the National Zoo
This free event at the National Zoo celebrates African-American culture and family traditions. Activities include an egg hunt, photo ops with the Easter Bunny, arts and crafts, games, meet-and-greets with animals, and more. On display will be the Pathways to Freedom Peace Quilt, honoring the work and life of civil-rights activist Rosa Parks. The day’s roster of live entertainment features DJ George of Talk of the Town, a gospel quintet, a dance team, and a steel-drum ensemble, among others. Festivities start at 10 AM and will be held rain or shine.
Hunt for History
Add a history lesson to your Easter plans with an egg hunt at Gadsby’s Tavern, an 18th-century restaurant and museum in Alexandria. Kids will help find the tavernkeeper’s Easter eggs while touring the historic building that George and Martha Washington, Thomas Jefferson, and John Adams once called home. The event runs from 10 to 4 on April 11; tours begin every half hour. Admission is $5 for adults, $3 for kids; reservations are encouraged. Call 703-838-4242.
Sterling Easter Egg Hunt and Carnival
Sterling United Methodist Church is hosting a free egg hunt and carnival for kids ages 2 through 11 on April 11 from 10 to noon. Activities include a moon bounce, egg hunt, games, and crafts. The bounce and egg hunt will be timed for age groups, with ages 9 through 11 on the bounce at 10 and ages 2 to 3 hunting for eggs at 10:15. Click here to see the full schedule. White House Easter Egg Roll
The White House opens its gates each year to children and their parents for what has become Washington’s most famous egg hunt. The day-long event includes sports, cooking classes, live musical acts, storytelling, and the traditional Easter egg race. This year’s event is scheduled for April 13 starting at 8 AM. For the first time, the free tickets were made available online on March 26. The White House Web site states that tickets are no longer available.
