The Airmen of Note, the Air Force’s jazz ensemble (and part of the vast military-musical complex), is marking its 60th anniversary with a performance on the west steps of the Capitol. 8 PM.
Wednesday, July 7
The homegrown R&B group Be’la Dona, whose seven members attended the Duke Ellington School of the Arts and Howard University, is performing as part of Strathmore’s free concert series. A mime and a clown are the pre-show entertainment. 7 PM.
Thursday, July 8
In honor of its new Norman Rockwell exhibition, the Smithsonian American Art Museum is showing a series of classic films with themes that interested the legendary American artist. Mr. Deeds Goes to Town, the 1935 Frank Capra film about a man who inherits a fortune and is thought insane for giving it away, is playing in the museum’s McEvoy Auditorium at 6:30.
Friday, July 9
Prepare for Kieran Culkin’s turn in the new movie Scott Pilgrim vs. the World by checking out the film that made his brother a household name. Rosslyn’s weekly outdoor movie series in Gateway Park, this year focused on ’90s movies, shows Home Alone. 8 PM.
Saturday, July 10
Reston is pulling out all the stops for its 46th birthday at Reston Town Center. There’ll be a circus show and a performance by the modern swing group King Teddy at the Reston Pavilion. 8 PM.
Sunday, July 11
Want to hear young musical masters before they’re famous? Students from the National Symphony Orchestra’s Summer Music Institute are performing works by Wagner, Britten, and Brahms at the Kennedy Center’s free Millennium Stage. 6 PM.
