It’s a big week for the Washington stage, with theater openings and karaoke competitions

Monday, January 24
The Kennedy Center is honoring John F. Kennedy with a celebration of the 50th anniversary of his inauguration as President. Tonight, Christoph Eschenbach conducts pianist Tzimon Barto in Gershwin’s Piano Concerto, dances from West Side Story, and Peter Lieberson’s Remembering JFK (An American Elegy). 7 PM; buy tickets ($20 to $85) at the Kennedy Center Web site.

Tuesday, January 25
Containing all the elements of a classic Shakespeare comedy, including a shipwreck and mistaken identity, A Comedy of Errors opens tonight at the Folger Theater. It’s running through March 6; get tickets ($30 to $60) at the Folger’s site.

Wednesday, January 26
The National Theatre of Scotland presents the critically acclaimed Black Watch. Based on interviews with soldiers who served in Iraq, the play explores what it means to be part of a modern war. At Sidney Harman Hall through February 6. Buy tickets ($70 to $80) at the Shakespeare Theatre Company Web site.

Thursday, January 27
Whether you’re an American Idol hopeful or just like to watch drunk people sing, you’ll enjoy the H Street Karaoke Competition. It’s a battle between the best performers from the regular competitions at Little Miss Whiskey’s Golden Dollar and Sticky Rice as they take the stage at the Rock and Roll Hotel to win a cash prize. 8 PM; no cover.
