Fibre Space
102 N. Fayette St., Alexandria; 703-664-0344
Fibre Space—a self-described “knit and crochet” universe—is a hip, large, and well-lit space dedicated to yarn, needles, and notions in Old Town. Offering one of the largest yarn inventories in the area, Fibre Space is known for its small, personalized knitting classes (six people max) as well as “yarn tastings” where you can try yarn. Stop in the Rocket Lounge to stitch, mingle, and use the high-speed Ravelry workstation.

Stitch DC
731 Eighth St. SE; 202-544-8900
In the heart of Capitol Hill’s Barracks Row neighborhood, Stitch DC is a tiny storefront owned by Marie Connolly, a writer of knitting books and patterns. Knitters from around the country have been known to stop in when visiting Washington. This is a good place to find unexpected yarn, knitting advice from Connolly, and a cozy space on the couch near the window.
