What's In: Traditional Bathrooms

Wall and floor tile: Natural stone or porcelain in solid, mostly neutral colors. Usually 12-by-12-inch tile or subway tile. Flooring is often a different color than the wall tile.

Accent tiles: Simple designs in stone such as onyx or a combination of glass and slate in unique shapes.

Tub: Freestanding or with very small deck. Soaking or air-jetted.

Sink: Under- or counter-mounted. Sometimes vessel sinks used in powder rooms.

Sink color: Biscuit or white. In powder rooms, natural stone or glass that’s clear or colored.

Sink faucet: Unadorned lever handle, widespread.

Shower faucets: Two showerheads plus hand-held showerhead.

Faucet finish: Polished chrome, brushed nickel, or oil-rubbed bronze.

Cabinetry: Freestanding furniture. Simple door details. Light, medium, or dark color.

Countertops: Natural stone tops; Carrara marble is popular. Light or medium neutral color. Polished, honed, or antiqued finish.
