Sen. Ted Stevens Hires Super-Lawyer Brendan Sullivan

Federal investigators have told the Associated Press that Alaska senator Ted Stevens is not a target of an investigation into a bribery case that has officials looking at a remodeling of Stevens’s resort home in Girdwood, Alaska.

But Stevens apparently isn’t taking any chances. He has quietly hired Washington’s most powerful and expensive lawyer, Brendan Sullivan Jr., to deal with the feds.

The investigation stems from indictments against executives of an Alaskan oil-field-services firm that has been prominent in political giving and, according to investigators, in bribing four state legislators, who have been indicted.

According to the Anchorage Daily News, testimony before a grand jury has linked remodeling at the Stevens house to the same company, which apparently “would examine” the bills before they were passed on to Senator Stevens.

Stevens had no comment.
