Newseum Perch Top Pick in ’09

The Newseum, opening next fall, is quickly taking form on the last undeveloped space on Pennsylvania Avenue, just west of the Capitol.

Replacing the much smaller version in Rosslyn, the new seven-level space will highlight the changing role of the news media over their long history and feature some big artifacts like a helicopter and a guard tower from the Berlin Wall.

It’ll have a stunning atrium (called the Great Hall of News) with a 40-by-22-foot screen and a 535-seat Forum Theater. The view from the fifth-level terrace will be one of the best in Washington—up and down the inaugural parade route. Network executives have already been through the site to sketch out their 2009 coverage.

Wedding and event planners, get ready: The terraces and Pulitzer Prize photo gallery will be available for events.
