Burger Brackets: EatBar vs. Smith & Wollensky
Welcome to Burger Brackets, where we ask you to vote to discover the best burger in Washington. Today's face-off is...
Published Wednesday, March 18, 2009
And here we are, folks—the last match-up in this round (or the Savory Sixteen, as we've been calling it here at the Washingtonian.com offices). With Matchbox having edged out Capital Grille in their face-off, we're only waiting on the outcome of Central vs. Ray's Hell-Burger and this match-up to finalize the third round. And who is facing off in this afternoon's challenge, you might ask? Good question. Check below. And as a reminder, you can keep tabs on all the Burger Brackets and browse through past ones here.
EatBar: It's better known for its housemade hotdog, but the $10 burger at this Lyon Park gastropub is popular too. It's elevated by herbs and a good dose of butter, then topped with sweet pickles. There's even homemade ketchup to go with it. Smith and Wollensky: The DC outlet of this steakhouse serves a two-napkin 8 oz. burger topped with cheddar and tomato/jalapeno relish. Who makes the better burger? Vote in the poll below, then leave your thoughts in the comments. Then go vote in the Central vs. Ray's Hell-Burger match-up—that's open until 10 AM tomorrow.

Where’s the 10 am match up?!

The results of this bracket are seriously doubtful...
What is Five Guys doing in the final 8?! No Five Guys has ever cooked my burger medium rare, whether I request it or not. The fact they are in the final 8 calls into question this whole bracket. Five Guys is really not that good, just cheap, and a cheap is not the same as good at all.
Plus, you’ve left off some key players, like the Argoburger (at the Argonaut on H Street--nice buns, cooked to order), Granville Moore’s Bison Burger (also on H Street), and Z Burger (Tenleytown) (competition that easily out-burgers Five Guys).
