Make Mine a Single: Valentine’s Parties Where You Don’t Need a Date

Who needs a stinkin’ significant other anyway? Here’s a list of parties where all the single ladies (and gentlemen) can party this Valentine’s Day weekend—and where you might even find your next soulmate.

It’s time to bring some sensitivity to the major issue of the plight of singles. And that’s just what the Valentine’s Day Singles Awareness Night sets out to do—with a giant party bus and a lot of booze. Sounds good to us! Meeting at 19th and M streets, Northwest, on February 13, the party bus will take you from bar to bar all over DC (the list isn’t finalized yet). The event starts at 9 and costs $35; drinks at the bars are extra, but specials are being lined up. Tickets can be purchased here.

Can’t quite move on from the one who broke your heart? This Valentine’s Day is as good a time as any to start the process. Why not make it happen with a giant shredder and cheap Miller Lites? That’s what you’ll get at the Bottom Line on February 13, with its annual Shred Your Ex and Find Your Next party. Bring in old photos, love letters—heck, anything that’s made of paper and reminds you of your ex—and run them through the Bottom Line’s shredder. 8 PM; free.

Dancing? Free? You just figured out the key to our heart, Valentine. Head to the Black Cat on Sunday, February 14, for bartender Chad America’s 11th Annual Valentine’s Day Rock & Roll Dance Party with plenty of fun DJs. 9 PM.

If being single on Valentine’s Day is something you need to put in perspective, head to the Doomed Valentine’s Day Show, where you’ll be reminded of the pain and heartbreak—and abject humiliation—of adolescent love. Mortified DC hosts this event where participants can get up onstage and tell true stories about their most embarrassing teenage love experiences. It takes place February 10 at Town. The doors open at 7; tickets are $10 in advance or $15 at the door and can be purchased here.

Singles, cocktails, and promises of “endless possibilities”? That’s what you’ll get February 13 at PassionFish in Reston. The restaurant is hosting the Dating Game, a singles mixer, from 7 to 10. $70. Call 703-230-3474 for more information.

Take some culture, add a splash of naughtiness and a twist of mystery, and you have the Naked at the Art Museum Scavenger Hunt at the Smithsonian American Art Museum at 2 and 4 on February 13. Watson Adventures hosts the hunts, which puts you on the track to finding the nakedest things possible in the museum. $23.50; get tickets here.

Single on Valentine’s Day and bummed about it? Gather that negative energy and put it toward a good cause by heading to the Art of Love Singles Paintfest to Benefit HSC Pediatric Center. DC Active Singles hosts this volunteer session on February 13, where you can paint bright and cheery canvases that will end up in the hospital rooms of sick children. Of course, you get to mix with loads of local singles. $10 in advance; more information and tickets here.
