Listen Up! Halloween Edition

This week, Listen Up!—our music column featuring songs from bands and performers coming through town—celebrates Halloween with a playlist of monster-themed pop and rock songs.

Update: We're bumping this up so you can enjoy these tunes on Halloween day. Happy haunting! If the player does not load on this page, click on the "Pop-Out Player" option tab.

Don’t get us wrong: We love Halloween classics like “Thriller” and “Monster Mash,” but there are only so many times you can listen to those songs before you stop dancing like a zombie and start wishing actual zombies were feasting on your brain. (Yum!) So we scoured the Internet, ransacked our record collection, and tortured some music experts—all in search of much-needed new blood for a Halloween-themed playlist.

Below you’ll find a collection that incorporates the classics with the contemporary, the obvious (Type O Negative’s “All Hallows Eve”) with the more esoteric (Nelly Furtado’s “Maneater,” anyone?), the danceable with the downright creepy.

Think we made some glaring omissions? Leave us your thoughts in the comments and we’ll add your suggestions to our playlist, compiling a—pardon the easy pun—monster Halloween playlist that’ll raise the dead on Friday night.

This playlist is no longer available. Sorry, folks!
