Things to Do

Where & When: What To Do This Week

Football watching, a must-see concert, and ladies night out at the stadium.

Monday, September 17: It’s Monday night football, and the ’Skins are on tap. Looking for a new sports bar to watch them in? Try Nellie’s on U Street. With its quaint portraits of women and a Goethe-inspired staircase that reads “We are shaped and fashioned by what we love,” Nellie’s (900 U St., NW; 202-332-NELL) isn’t your typical sports bar. Then again, the Foosball table, scoreboards, and multiple ESPN-tuned TVs don’t exactly spell out “gay bar”—which is what Nellie’s is as well. Click here for our profile and photo slideshow of the sophisticated yet laid-back space. Not a ’Skins fan? Don’t forget to check out our guide to where to watch other football teams around town.

Tuesday, September 18: Prove your mettle at the Palace of Wonders (1210 H Street, NE), which is hosting a female arm-wrestling competition. Show your strength and beat your foes to win prizes from the bar. 9 PM; free.

Wednesday, September 19: It might be worthwhile trolling Craigslist for tickets to the sold-out double bill of Girl Talk and Dan Deacon at the Black Cat this evening. Girl Talk (Pittsburgh mashup DJ Greg Gillis) and Dan Deacon (who sets up his keyboards and instruments in the middle of the crowd and churns out dance-and-frenzy-inducing electronica) put on one hell of a show. 8 PM; $15, if you can snag a ticket.

Thursday, September 20: The Washington Nationals host Ladies Night Out and Home Run Happy Hour as part of the their farewell to RFK Stadium. Happy Hour includes drinks, food, prizes, giveaways, live music, and Nationals player appearances.  The team takes on the Phillies afterwards. Click here for prices and details.
