Musician Ben Folds and novelist Nick Hornby are teaming up on Lonely Avenue, a collection of musical short stories. They’re performing selections from their project at the Sixth & I Historic Synagogue at 7:30. For tickets ($30), click here or call 202-544-7077 .

The Kennedy Center hosts the North American premiere of Chekhov’s Three Sisters. Part of the Chekhov International Theatre Festival, the play tells of the lives and loves of the three sisters who live in a small Russian town. In Russian with English surtitles. 7:30. Richard Thompson is a music legend, one of the 20 best guitarists to ever pick up an axe, according to Rolling Stone. He’ll play selections from his 40 albums at the 9:30 Club at 7. Buy tickets ($35) here.
