Listen Up! Side Project Edition

This week, Listen Up!, our music column, wonders what some of your favorite side or solo projects are. Gwen Stefani? One of Jack White’s bands? Phil Collins? Let us know in the comments.

The inspiration behind this week’s column comes from Swedish goddess Nina Persson, whom most of you will probably recognize as lead singer of the band the Cardigans. Remember? They of the whimsical “Lovefool” pop song from Baz Lurhmann’s Romeo & Juliet.

Later this month, Persson will release Colonia, the second album with her side-project band, A Camp—making her the latest in a seemingly endless string of artists with solo or side projects. Recently, there’s been Karen O of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs with Native Korean Rock & the Fishnets; New Pornographers band members Carl Newman (a.k.a A.C. Newman) and Neko Case both released solo albums earlier this year; and then there’s Jack White, who seems to have a new band every month. His latest, Dead Weather, features the Kills’ frontwoman, Allison Mosshart.

Below, we’ve compiled a quick list of some artists who have side bands or who’ve ventured out on their own for an album or two. (We’ll let you be the judge of whether they should have done this in the first place.) Have any suggestions? Let us know in the comments.

This playlist is no longer available. Sorry folks!
