Where & When: What to Do Tonight

An art reception, Southern smorgasbord, and a serious discussion

Eat pig like a pig and don’t be ashamed at Pig-a-Palooza at Jackson 20 restaurant. The all-you-can-eat barbecue ($35) comes with a variety of sides and pie, all served outside in what promises to be more glorious early-fall weather. 6 PM. Afterward, swing-dance the night (and the calories) away with DJ Dabe Murphy at Nick’s Nightclub (642 S. Pickett St., Alexandria;703-359-9882). 9 PM; $6.

The latest exhibit from the Washington Sculptors Group opens tonight with a reception at the Historical Society of Washington. “Porous Borders” features work by 20 artists who explore the power of boundary lines. 6 to 8; free.

Get an in-depth look at the events that led to the infamous “beer summit,” as Harvard Law School professor Charles Ogletree discusses and signs his book, The Presumption of Guilt: The Arrest of Henry Louis Gates, Jr. and Race, Class and Crime in America. The author is speaking at Busboys and Poets at 6:30; free.
