Alexandria author Andrew Wingfield is at the Sherwood Regional Library (2501 Sherwood Hall La., Alexandria) to discuss and read from his new short-story collection, Right of Way. The collection, which takes place in a fictionalized version of Alexandria’s Del Ray neighborhood, won the Washington Writers’ Publishing House 2010 prize. 7 PM; free.

The band Wise Old Lions is self-described as friends and musicians who make beautiful music together. The group’s homegrown sound consists of string instruments, keyboards, and vocals. The band is at the Black Cat at 9. Buy tickets ($5) at Ticket Alternative.

Jammin’ Java is hosting a concert to support Rock Against Cancer. Several local bands with ties to the region, including the blues-rock group Black Dog Prowl and Russian pop-rock group Sol Bandits, will be there. Buy tickets ($13) at the Jammin’ Java site.
