Summer is winding down, which means it’s your last chance to catch a free flick at Bethesda Row’s movie series. Tonight’s Marvel favorite is Iron Man, about a wealthy industrialist (Robert Downey Jr.) who’s forced to build a high-tech suit after being held hostage by terrorists. The all-star cast includes Jeff Bridges, Terrence Howard, and Gwyneth Paltrow. You can watch the trailer here. Redwood will be serving complimentary popcorn and $10 dirty martinis and glasses of Macallan scotch. 8:30 PM.

DESIGN: Décor-obsessed Washingtonians won’t want to miss Apartment Therapy’s Summer Social at The Dunes. Interior designers Alex Sanchez, Eric Kole, and Zoe Feldman will explore the latest trends, offer helpful tips, and answer your burning design questions. RSVP at the event Web site. 7 PM.

MUSIC: Malian singer and guitarist Vieux Farka Touré is performing at 9:30 Club tonight. The rising musician recently collaborated with the South African rock band BLK JKS and performed at the 2010 World Cup. You can sample some of his tracks here. For tickets ($25), go to the event Web site. Doors open at 7:30 PM.

POETRY: Beltway Poetry Slam is kicking off its second season with performances by Laura Yes Yes and Kim Johnson. Stop by the Fridge at 8 PM to witness the tonight’s three-round elimination style poetry slam. Tickets ($5) can be purchased at the door.
