Ask anyone who lives and/or works in McLean or Tysons Corner: A restaurant opening in the area is always exciting news. Especially when said restaurant serves giant, juicy grilled burgers made with dry-aged beef. Bethesda-based burger mogul Mark Bucher will open the newest location of BGR the Burger Joint—there are already more than 20—in the Tysons Corner Center on Monday, August 27, a company rep confirms.
And there is other BGR news. While the chain is best known for its extra large beefwiches, it also serves easy-to-eat cheddar-topped sliders on potato rolls. BGR will host a slider-eating contest at its Bethesda location on September 18. The grand prize—$500 and a chance to participate in a national competition—goes to the iron-gutted gladiator who eats the most sliders in ten minutes. The second- and third-place contestants will receive a $250 and a $100 gift certificate to BGR, respectively. The competition begins at noon on the 18th; the national finals will take place on May 28, 2013, otherwise known as National Hamburger Day. If you think you’ve got the stomach for it, e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org with your name, age, address, and an explanation of why you’d like to spend ten minutes attempting to gullet as many small hamburgers as possible.
