It is that time of year again: Foodie and the Beast host Nycci Nellis tweeted the news on Friday that the 2013 Winter Restaurant Week will happen February 4 through 11. The Restaurant Association of Metropolitan Washington—now under new president Kathy Hollinger—has shared some more details.
Prix fixe lunches and dinners cost $20.13 and $35.13. You can make reservations via the RAMW’s newly fancified website, where many of the participating places have already posted menus. There is also a lamb promotion this year sponsored by Meat & Lifestock Australia—chefs will feature lamb dishes on the menu, diners will vote for favorites on Facebook, and one of them will win an Australian lamb dinner for 10 cooked by the victorious eatery. (A trip to Oz will be awarded to the winning establishment.)
If you have not had the opportunity to experience Jeffrey Buben’s new downtown restaurant Woodward Table, the revamped Farmers Fishers Bakers at the Georgetown Waterfront, or the recently remodeled Firefly in Dupont, good news: Those are all on the list, as is 701, where chef Tony Conte (Oval Room) recently took over for Ed Witt. The best restaurant week strategy is to make reservations early, of course, and that holds true especially if you are planning to try Rasika or Rasika West End during the week of deals—reservations have become precious commodities at both of Ashok Bajaj’s Indian eateries, even without the lure of discounts. The same holds true for the well-loved Mintwood Place in Adams Morgan. Restaurant Week also presents an excellent opportunity to try spendy sushi places—both Kaz Sushi Bistro and Sushi Taro have special menus for the occasion.
