New WaPo Poll Numbers Show Declining Popularity for Vince Gray, Deepening Class Divisions: Lots of interesting data to sift through from a new Washington Post poll released over the weekend. The full poll results can be found here, which show a marked uptick in concerns about the direction of the DC government following a lengthy string of scandals. The poll also found that DC residents increasingly see socioeconomic class, not just race, as the primary source of a divisions inside the city.
City Paper Seeks Dismissal of Dan Snyder Lawsuit: The Washington City Paperposted its most recent court filings in the ongoing Dan Snyder libel lawsuit online late on Friday. The weekly newspaper is asking a judge to dismiss the case under the District's relatively new anti-SLAPP law, which is designed in part to "protect news organizations against lawsuits intended to intimidate them out of writing about public figures."
Lil' Wayne's Entourage Involved in Scuffle at DC Strip Club: Following last week's shooting involving a party bus that had been transporting passengers from DC's Stadium Club strip club, the Washington Times dug into the club's records of emergency calls and discovered a few new tidbits. Among them: Back in April, the entourage of rapper Lil' Wayne allegedly got involved in an altercation with another patron at the club, which resulted in a stripper being hit in the face with a champagne bottle. The Alcoholic Beverage Control Board has already referred the matter to the Office of the Attorney General for review.
DCA Flights Interrupted Due to Bomb Threat: Here's hoping those of you who were traveling back to the city on Sunday weren't inconvenienced too much by the bomb threat investigation that briefly halted flights at National Airport. NBC4 reports that takeoffs and landings were only held for about 20 minutes or so, after an apparently mentally disturbed woman walked up to a US Airways counter in Dayton, Ohio and said there was a bomb on an inbound DCA flight. No explosives were found aboard the plan after a four-hour search.
President Obama Starts Sending His Own Tweets: As TechCrunch noted on Friday, the president's 2012 campaign staff announced late last week that Obama will now occasionally write his own tweets for the @BarackObama Twitter feed, which will be signed "-BO," (tweets written by staff will remain unsigned.) And he did just that for the first time on Sunday, with a Father's Day message for the nation: "Being a father is sometimes my hardest but always my most rewarding job. Happy Father's Day to all the dads out there. -BO."
