Best of 2004: Scott Fortier

Producer, director, actor -- Fortier loves being in the spotlight.

Act One. By day, Scott Fortier is a law-firm administrator. The rest of the time, he's founder and artistic director of DC's Catalyst Theater Company. In five years, the 33-year-old hopes to be at Catalyst full-time, producing, directing, and acting–he recently won raves for his performance in The Elephant Man–and teaching at a university. He dreams of building his theater "from the ground up," as Studio Theatre's Joy Zinoman and Signature's Eric Schaeffer have done. Says Fortier: "When people come to our shows, if they exit with a different mindset, we've done our job."
