Jackie’s Throws a Katrina Fundraiser–Tonight!

Indulge in Tabasco bloody marys, gumbo, and roots rock for a good cause.

Tomorrow, Jackie's chef Sam Adkins is heading down to New Orleans for a week of rebuilding houses with the Saint Bernard Parish Project. And tonight, the restaurant is throwing a festive Hurricane Katrina benefit, complete with live music and Big Easy flavors, to support him and the cause.

“Sam's a real charitable sort," says namesake and co-owner Jackie Greenbaum. "We wanted to send him off with a big check.” Though she encourages donations—all proceeds go to the St. Bernard Project—it’s free to join the party.

Expect rock-bottom prices ($3-$7) for heaping plates of gumbo, fried catfish, red beans and rice, and pork barbecue. In addition to beer and wine, bartenders will pour Tabasco bloody marys and a potent Louisiana-style punch of beer, vodka and pink lemonade.

The dance party kicks off at 6 PM with rockabilly band JP McDermott and Western Bop, followed by the the Grandsons, a roots rock band with a horn section. Appropriately, New Orleans swing band Saint Mama Bon Temps plays the third and final set.
