Carrying Cupcakes in Style

Gone are the days of cardboard boxes-- these nifty cupcake carriers keep frosting and sprinkles intact, even on frenzied Metro trips and bumpy car rides.

Say goodbye to smooshed cupcakes. The Cupcake Courier ($32.95) saves the icing-smeared goodies from death-by-transportation.

After too many cupcake-dilemma-induced headaches, frustrated mom Jennifer Gunn came up with the idea, and she now sells the triple-tiered carrying case online in translucent shades of petal pink, saffron yellow, sky blue, and lemongrass; each case holds 36 cupcakes. On the NBC comedy The Office, the Cupcake Courier is a favorite of character Pam Beesley. Actress Jenna Fischer, who plays Beesley (and is Gunn's real-life cousin-in-law) hypes it on her MySpace page.  Crate & Barrel and Oneida have also caught on. Their versions ($21.95 and $21.99, respectively) store 24 cupcakes. Unlike Gunn’s creation, they’re ovensafe and can withstand up to 450 degrees, although that means they’re fitted with less-pretty nonstick metal pans instead of pastel-hued plastic trays. Either way, nary a sprinkle will fall out of place.

The Cupcake Courier is available at cupcakecourier.com. The Crate & Barrel carrying case can be found at the store’s five area locations and crateandbarrel.com. The Oneida case is available at Bed Bath & Beyond stores.
