Things to Do

This Week in Nightlife

What to do every night of this week for fun.

Monday, March 24: Elephants Walk the City

The Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus circus is coming to town—and along with it, its line of famous pachyderms. When the circus travels from town to town, the elephants get offloaded early from the train to walk the rest of the way to their destination (in this case, the Verizon Center, where the circus will be March 27 through 30). The elephants will be walking starting at 1:30 PM at Garfield Park (Third and G sts., SE) and eventually going onto Massachusetts Avenue, passing in front of Union Station, onto E Street, Northwest, and then heading up Sixth Street to the Verizon Center.

Tuesday, March 25: A Rock-Star Party to Beat Diabetes

There’s nothing we love more than getting to party while raising money for a good cause. Tonight you can do just that at ’80s throwback bar Tattoo, where the American Diabetes Association is throwing a fundraiser. A $10 cover charge gets you in for drink specials such as $5 mixed drinks and $5 Grand Marnier drinks. 7 PM.

Wednesday, March 26: Smart Ass Trivia

Nellie’s Sports Bar (900 U St., NW; 202-332-6355) hosts Smart Ass!, this bar’s version of trivia that takes place every Wednesday at 8 PM; a second round starts at 9. Prizes include $30 off the winning team’s tab and $20 and $10 off for the runners-up. The game consists of three rounds of six questions each plus a special round. Want even more trivia? See our guide to weekly bar-trivia nights.

Thursday, March 27: See the Colbert Portrait

Have you checked out the by-now-infamous Stephen Colbert portrait hanging by the bathroom in the National Portrait Gallery? No? Then you’d better get on it—this weekend is the last it will be hanging before the museum takes it down from its six-week run. The museum is open from 11:30 to 7 daily.
