Things to Do

Where & When: This Week in Washington Nightlife

What to do every night of this week for fun.

Monday: Opera on the Cheap
Always been interested in checking out an opera, but never thought you could afford the tickets? You should check out Generation O, a program offering cheaper opera tickets to those under the age of 35. Tonight is a cocktail reception for the group, and a performance of La Traviata. Best of all? Tickets start at just $15.

Tuesday:
New Men’s Looks
Sartorially-inclined male? Then you’ll want to head to the Chevy Chase Bloomingdale’s tonight for an evening with Details Magazine. Bloomie’s and the mag will be showing off new men’s fashion, letting folks play Guitar Hero, offering up drinks, snacks, skin and fashion consultations, and more. There’s no discrimiation here, though—ladies are welcome, too. 6 PM to 8 PM.

Wednesday: Madame Tussauds for a Dollar
Madame Tussauds may be a fun gimmick of a museum—creepily life-like wax figures of celebrities—but with its entrance fee of nearly $20, it never seemed worth the price. But! That all changes today. In celebration of the museum’s first anniversary in DC, if you sing “Happy Birthday” at the office, you’ll be able to enter for just $1. The special goes through Saturday.

Thursday: Poetry for All
At 9 PM on every ninth of the month, the U Street location of Busboys & Poets hosts Nine on the Ninth, a night of open mic poetry. Tonight, the event features local poet Katy Richey. Admission is free, but donations are encouraged. Want more open mic events? Check out our guide.
