Monday, May 4
Reston’s Mon Ami Gabi (11950 Democracy Dr.) hosts a Louis Latour wine dinner tonight at 6. The event begins with a sparkling-wine reception followed by a five-course French meal, with each course paired with a Louis Latour wine. Dinner costs $55 per person. For reservations, call 703-702-0233.

Tuesday, May 5

Learn about everything tomato at the Smithsonian Resident Associates’ “From Garden to Table: Eccentric Tomatoes and Heirloom Seeds.” Heirloom-vegetable grower and author Amy Goldman will join Washington Post gardening editor Adrian Higgins for a conversation about the tomato’s origins, gardening tips, recipes, and the heirloom-seed-preservation movement. The event, which costs $25 per person ($15 for Resident Associate members), will be held at the S. Dillon Ripley Center (1100 Jefferson Dr., SW) from 6:45 to 8. Wildfire, a steakhouse in Tysons Galleria hosts a pork and Pinot Noir dinner. The three-course meal, $65 per person, begins with a reception featuring bacon-wrapped lobster as well as shrimp skewers in a pomegranate-honey sauce paired with a La Crema Monterey Pinot Noir. The first course, wild-cherry-glazed baby back ribs with macaroni and goat cheese, is paired with Erath Oregon Pinot Noir. Braised pork shank with ramp-and-mushroom risotto gets a Wild Horse Pinot Noir. The dinner ends with a selection of artisanal cheeses paired with a Sanford Santa Rita Hills Pinot Noir. Thursday, May 7
Gourmet magazine editor Ruth Reichl is at Politics and Prose (1515 Connecticut Ave., NW) to talk about her new memoir, Not Becoming My Mother. The free reading starts at 7.

To celebrate National Barbecue Month, Rocklands Barbeque & Grilling Company is offering free “pig pulls” at all four of its area locations (Alexandria, Arlington, Rockville, and Glover Park). TasteDC hosts a Mother’s Day-themed cooking class at L’Auberge Chez François (332 Springvale Rd., Great Falls) with chef Jacques Haeringer. He’ll lead a seated demonstration of French culinary techniques followed by a luncheon with wine. There’ll be recipes for guests to take home. Sova (1359 H St., NE), a coffee-and-wine bar in DC’s Atlas District, is celebrating World Cocktail Week with a happy hour to benefit the Museum of the American Cocktail. Melanie Asher of Macchu Pisco will discuss pisco, the grape-based Peruvian spirit her company produces. The newly refashioned cafe will serve pisco cocktails created by Derek Brown and Jamie MacBain: the Bay Area Philosopher (pisco, pineapple-sage syrup, ginger liqueur, and lemon juice), the Arequipa Sunset (pisco, muddled yellow peppers, cranberry juice, orange juice, and mint), and the Formosa (white port, sparkling sake, and orange zest).
