What do you do when you’re a CIA agent in need of a cover? Pretend to be a food writer, of course! In the case of Kay Shaw Nelson, her disguise led to a successful career that includes publishing 20 cookbooks. Tonight, she’s working with Stir Food Group (Zola, Potenza) chef Bryan Moscatello to make recipes from her new book, The Cloak and Dagger Cook: A CIA Memoir. The event, $75, includes a copy of the book, food samples, and two glasses of wine—plus 10 percent off Zola Wine & Kitchen purchases. Click here to register. 6 PM.

Tickets are $49. The event is at Alliance France (2142 Wyoming Ave., NW; 202-234-7911). 11:30 to 1. For more information and to register, click here.
