The night kicks off with a fashion show of the latest fall trends and continues with cocktails and appetizers while you shop. The Jeté Society, a group of young professionals who support the Washington Ballet, is hosting its first happy hour of the season. Even if you can’t plié or fit into a pair of toe shoes, enjoy free appetizers, $5 Heinekens, and $10 wine and ginger margaritas on the outdoor patio of J&G Steakhouse. Twenty percent of each tab goes to the Washington School of Ballet’s Scholarship Fund. Free. 6 to 8.
Catch a free screening of Kevin Bacon’s ’80s classic Footloose at the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center. Pix on the Plaza hosts the outdoor screening. 8 PM.

Honfleur Gallery promises to help you “Lose the World, Gain Your Soul” at the opening of a new exhibit with the same name. The edgy works by Billy Colbert represent aspects of popular and unpopular culture while paying tribute to vintage illustrations. 7 PM; free.
Head from work to the weekend via the Soul Train Happy Hour at U Street Music Hall. DJ Stylus spins along with Deep Sang and DJ Meistro, and Sherell Rowe performs live. 5 PM. No cover.
Are tomatoes fruits or vegetables? Either way, a $35 ticket to the Mid-Atlantic Red Fruit Festival gets you your fill of them, sourced from local growers who turn their produce over to top Washington chefs. Saturday, September 25
Head to the annual Barracks Row Fall Festival and enjoy the usual assortment of food and music, plus an opening ceremony at 11:30 featuring the Marine Corps Brass Quintet, a performance by the Redskinettes at 4, and tours of the barracks all day. 11 to 5; free.
The Nigerian musician Tosin Aribisala fuses jazz, gospel, neo-soul, and traditional African music. The drummer and composer is performing at the Atlas Performing Arts Center as part of its Intersections program. During breaks, mingle with the performers in the lobby. 7 PM; free.
Alan Binstock, a Washington sculptor, gives a free lecture on his new works, which are on display at the American University Museum at the Katzen Arts Center. His pieces combine steel and glass in colorful, larger-than-life forms. 4 PM.
Looking for something to do with the kids? Kick back with popcorn and candy at an outdoor screening of Kung Fu Panda at FedEx Field. Tickets ($6) are available here. Parking is free. 6 PM.

Take a step back in time at Then & Wow, a celebration of the rich history of Glen Echo Park. In addition to juggling demonstrations, magic shows, and extreme T-ball, it’s also the last day to take a spin on the beautiful Dentzel Carousel before it closes for the winter. 11 to 5. Washington is more than just the Smithsonian and Mall, and the What’s Out There Weekend sponsored by the Cultural Landscape Foundation (TCLF) aims to show you just that. Saturday and Sunday, the group’s guides are giving free walking tours of 25 of DC’s overlooked designed spaces—parks, gardens, and other public areas.
