Activist and artist Graham Boyle’s new exhibit, “Thrive, Despite!” opens tonight at the Fridge. His collection of letterpress, screen prints, and artistic books balance his conflicting feelings of hope and despair over the changing world. 7 PM. Free.
Tuesday, October 19
Newcomer to the magazine scene, the local publication Worn is throwing a party celebrating its second issue, out today. The magazine featured ten local DJs who are playing tonight at U Street Music Hall for a dance party. 8 PM. Tickets ($10) are available here or at the door ($15).
Wednesday, October 20
Fusing spoken word with gospel, jazz, and hip-hop, the critically acclaimed Ameriville comes to the Round House Theatre. The show examines our country in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. Through November 7. Buy tickets ($25 to $50; $10 on Tuesdays) here.
Thursday, October 21
Blending the sounds of an underground DJ and a live dance band, House of Soul keeps crowds moving at Bossa (2463 18th St., NW). Six musicians make up the band, combining drums, congas, keyboards, guitar, and voice on remixed classics and original songs. $3 cover. 10 PM to 1 AM.
