Artist and filmmaker Matthew Barney traveled to Japan, made use of 45,000 pounds of petroleum jelly and a whaling vessel, and had it all filmed. His piece, “Drawing Restraint 9,” is a narrative sculpture that tells the story of two land mammals that turn into whales. Catch a screening of a documentary about the project at Artisphere at 8. The Army Blues, the premier jazz ensemble of the United States Army Band, is presenting Stan Keaton Christmas. This holiday tribute to the big-band legend will be performed at the Kennedy Center’s Millennium Stage. 6 PM; free.
