Volunteer in Washington: Women and Families

Lend your time or expertise to help women and families from DC and the surrounding region overcome hard times

The prolonged economic downturn has left families across the country facing poverty. The Census Bureau reports that between 2005 and 2009, almost 15 percent of all families in the District alone were below the poverty line—among families headed by women, that percentage jumps to 28. The picture isn't much brighter in affluent areas such as Loudoun and Prince George's counties, where domestic-abuse rates and foreclosures are still substantial problems.

But if you want to make a difference, there are organizations across Washington that work to keep women and families of all circumstances from falling through the cracks.
