Where & When: What to Do Tonight

The return of the DC Jazz Festival, Synetic Theater’s latest, and a beer tasting

MUSIC: The DC Jazz Festival starts today and runs through June 13. Grammy-nominated songstress/musician Carolyn Malachi performs at Bohemian Caverns tonight; her work has drawn comparisons to the soulful music of Jill Scott, Erykah Badu, and Janelle Monae. Get tickets ($15) for the 8 or 10 PM performance at Instant Seats.

THEATER: Synetic Theater presents its highly physical production of Don Quixote. The classic tale features a wandering knight who has abandoned his home and reality itself on an all-consuming journey fueled by fanciful books. This opening-night performance is pay-what-you-can; tickets go on sale at the box office at 7 PM (an hour before curtain) and are sold on a first-come, first-served basis.

DRINKS: For those into beer, Fireworks American Pizza and Bar is hosting a Meet the Brewer Night with Rob Tod of Allagash Brewing Company, based in Maine. Featured brews include Allagash rarities such as Bourbon-aged Black, Victor Ale, and Avance (Allagash Four aged in American oak bourbon barrels for three years, with a mix of brettanomyces, pedio, and fresh strawberries added to the barrels eight weeks prior to bottling). There’ll also be pizza specials. No cover, pay as you go; starts at 5 PM.
