PARTY: Break from the hustle and bustle of city life with the Textile Museum’s Urban Picnic, a night of lawn games, beach blanket bingo, live music, and gallery viewings at the museum’s gardens. Tickets ($10) can be purchased at the event Web site. 6 to 9 PM.
STAR GAZING: Swing by the National Air and Space Museum for an evening of star gazing and celestial wonderment. For one night only, the museum will open its powerful telescope to the public. Free. 9 to 10 PM.
MOVIE: You don’t have to live in the Hollywood hills to attend an Oscar premiere. Capital Riverfront will be screening Dirty Dancing as part of its Best of the Oscars Outdoor Movie series. Red carpet not included. Film begins at 8:45 PM at Tingey Plaza. Free.
Friday, June 10
PARTY: It’s about time interns called the shots—literally. InternsRock! and Town Tavern in Adam’s Morgan are here to help you make new friends. Stop by their Intern Week kickoff party for a $10 open bar (10 to 11 PM) and a chance to mingle with fellow phone-answerers and coffee-minions. Rail drinks and domestic beers are $3 after 11 PM if you bring your intern badge. Just lose the pantsuit.
YARD SALE: New digs for the summer? Why not decorate with a sword from Hamlet? Theater buffs will feel like a kid in a candy store at the Clark Street Playhouse yard sale. Everything from props and costumes to artwork and furniture is yours for the choosing. Proceeds will benefit the playhouse’s youth theater camp. Noon to 4 PM.
PRIDE: Capital Pride is in full swing! What better way to kick off the weekend than a gigantic, balls-to-the-wall party at the Newseum. Brightest Young Things presents a night of rainbow T-shirts, glitter paint, glow-stick dancing, and a no-shirts moonbounce. Food (by Wolfgang Puck Catering) and drink available for purchase. Tickets are $15 in advance, $20 at the door.
FESTIVAL: Get your creative juices flowing during the first night of this year’s Source Theater Festival. The festival returns with full-length plays, ten-minute plays, and artistic “blind dates.” Tickets are $10 to $55; All Access Passes are $125.
Saturday, June 11
PARTY: A beach party in Arlington? Why not? Break out the swimsuits and sunscreen for EatBar’s Beach Blanket Bash. Stay cool by sipping on a selection of 25 summer wines, but leave room for beach-friendly fare—including fish tacos, boardwalk fries, and handmade salt-water taffy. Surfer flicks, such as Endless Summer, will also be playing inside. Tropical attire is encouraged. Tickets are $25 at the event Web site; Food vouchers available for purchase on site. Noon to 3 PM.
PRIDE: Strut your stuff and get your glitter on at the Capital Pride’s annual parade. With live entertainment by drag queens and DJ Steve Henderson, a flurry of dazzling floats, and rainbows galore, it’s the don’t-miss parade of the year. 5:30 to 8:30 PM. The parade will start and assemble on the corner of 22nd and P streets, Northwest, travel through Dupont Circle, and end on the corner of 14th and N streets, Northwest.
COMEDY: Comedian, best-selling author, and renowned vodka drinker Chelsea Handler comes to DAR Constitution Hall for a night of standup. Comics Brad Wollack, Josh Wolf, and Heather McDonald, who regularly appear on Handler’s Chelsea Lately, will also perform. Tickets start at $63.50 at Ticketmaster. 8 PM, doors open at 7.
CONCERT: The ultimate jam band is making a pit stop at the Merriweather Post Pavilion tonight. Bring your own tie-dyed T-shirts. Tickets are $45 to $60 at Ticketfly.
NERD NITE: What do dying frogs, medicare, and the sex lives of pandas have in common? Not a whole lot. But they’ll be topics of discussion at DC9’s Nerd Nite. Tickets $10 at Ticket Alternative. 6:30 PM, doors open at 6.
Sunday, June 12
FASHION: DC’s new favorite fashion collective Butler and Claypool hosts its second major vintage pop-up shop at Vitaminwater Uncapped Live on the corner of 14th Street and Florida Avenue, Northwest. (In case you missed it, click here for pictures from the first pop-up shop.) This time around, they’re pairing with Pretty People Vintage, Uesa Goods, and DC’s own Hugh & Crye to bring you an array of hand-picked vintage items, men’s shirts, and handmade accessories. 1 to 7 PM, Free.
CRAFTS: Today’s your last chance to peruse the Annapolis Arts and Crafts Festival at the Navy Marine Corps Stadium. Enjoy live entertainment, fine cuisine, and, of course, handmade crafts. Tickets are $8 for adults, $5 for children and seniors.
PRIDE: The Capital Pride
Festival culminates in a gigantic street fair between 7th and 3rd streets on Pennsylvania Avenue, Northwest. Spend the day gallivanting from beer garden to burlesque show, with plenty of rainbow paraphernalia to go around. There will also be food vendors, a performance by the DC Cowboys, and Dream Girls actress Jennifer Holliday on the main stage. 11 AM to 6 PM.
