New Year’s Eve Restaurant Guide: Part One

Ready to book your last meal of 2011? Here's a sampling of local restaurants serving up specials meals on December 31. Look out for more to come.

2941 Restaurant
Seating(s): Reservations will be accepted between 4 and 10 PM.
Price: $95 per person for three courses.
Selling point: Foie gras is involved.

America Eats Tavern
Seating(s): 5 and 8:30 PM
Price: The 5 o’clock seating costs $75 a head; the second seating is $150.
Selling point: Who knows if José Andrés’s buzzy pop-up celebrating America’s food heritage will even be here next year? (Andrés recently announced it would continue operating through July 4, at least.) Also, there’s dancing.

Ardeo + Bardeo
Seating(s): All evening
Price: $65 for the four-course menu.
Selling point: Relaxation. At Ashok Bajaj’s adjoined Cleveland Park eateries, a New Year’s Eve dinner will still feel like a special occasion, but in a nice, neighborhood way.

Blue Duck Tavern
Seating(s): 5:30 and 8:30 PM
Price: The early seating of this three-course meal costs $75, or $145 with a wine pairing. The second seating is $110 ($175 with pairing), and includes a Champagne toast.
Selling point: Beltway bragging. You can tell your out-of-town date, “The Obamas have totally eaten here,” and you won’t even be lying.

Bourbon Steak
Seating(s): 5:30 PM and 8:30 PM
Price: The three-course meal at 5:30 is $90 per person ($175 with wine pairing); the six-course tasting menu at 8:30 is $110 ($175 with pairing).
Selling point: Scene-y-ness. Dressing to impress is advisable.

Cashion’s Eat Place
Seating(s): All evening
Price: $85 for a special five-course menu.
Selling point: Cashion’s boasts one of the city’s loveliest bars, an elegant location as any to receive that midnight kiss.

Estadio
Seating(s): All evening
Price: Estadio’s à-la-carte menu will be available all evening. Opt for a four-course tasting menu for $75.
Selling point: Every dinner guests gets a free glass of cava on the 31st.

Fiola
Seating(s): 5 PM and 9 PM
Price: Chef Fabio Trabocchi’s five-course tasting menu is $125 ($200 with wine pairings).
Selling point: The restaurant’s dapper bar is the perfect place for ordering the first cocktail of 2012.

Jaleo
Seating(s): All three locations of José Andrés’s tapas restaurant are featuring a NYE à-la-carte menu all night at the bar. The same menu is available from 5 to 7:30 PM in the dining room. Beginning at 8:30, you can get in on an unlimited tapas menu.
Price: The unlimited tapas menu is $85 per person.
Selling Point: Come to eat, stay for the party: Live deejays start spinning at 10:30 PM.

Lebanese Taverna (Bethesda location)
Seating(s): The Bethesda branch of Lebanese Taverna will be serving up its a-la-carte menu from 5 to 8 PM. At 9, the “Mezza Madness” party begins, featuring unlimited mezze, belly dancing, and a Champagne toast.
Selling Point: Did we mention the belly dancing?
Price: Mezza Madness is $65 per person.

Marvin
Seating(s): 6, 6:15, 8, 8:15, 10:15, and 10:30 PM
Price: Seatings through 8:15 are $60 per person. After that, it’s $75 per person, which includes a Champagne toast and unspecified “treats.” A wine pairing is $50 per person at all of the seatings.

Oyamel Cocina Mexicana
Seating(s): 5:30 to 7:30 PM and 8 to 10 PM.
Price: The earlier seating features a four-course prix fixe, which costs $59. The second seating, from 8 to 10 PM, costs $74 and includes a five-course meal.
Selling point: Available alongside your meal: a five-course Champagne tasting for $35 per person, or a cocktail tasting for $30.

Price: The regular menu at this Gallery Place eatery will be on offer on NYE, as will a special four-course, $95 tasting meal.
Selling point: As at sister eatery Estadio, guests of Proof will receive a complimentary glass of bubbly. Tasting-menu diners get a free glass of the really good stuff.
