In one week, downtown Washington will be swarming with food-industry folks in town for one of the nation’s biggest food conventions: the 58th Summer Fancy Food Show. It will fill the Convention Center with more than 180,000 food products from the US and 80 other countries. Publicists have been blasting the local press with e-mail missives inviting us to one private food event or another, but today we received a deal that’s open to the restaurant-loving public and from one of DC’s best restaurants, Citronelle.
On Saturday, June 16, Citronelle will offer a special $45 prix-fixe menu that includes some of the most popular dishes from the lounge menu: mushroom cigars, goat cheese Caesar salad, tuna napoleon niçoise, and sliced prosciutto are some of the appetizer offerings. Among the entrée options will be rack of lamb with jalapeño-cumin sauce, sablefish in lobster broth, and short ribs with peppercorn sauce. Desserts include the “eggs-ceptional” lemon meringue, a chocolate dégustation, napoleon cake, and berry cheesecake.
This special prix-fixe menu will be served in the restaurant’s upstairs lounge and on the adjoining terrace—popular places for local diners who want the Citronelle culinary flair without the formality. A tip for those who plan to book a table at Citronelle or any other popular Washington restaurant for next weekend: conventioneers will be your competition, so book early. The food show runs from June 17 through 19.
