Things to Do

What to Do This Week: July 30 to August 2

Do karaoke with a live band and laugh till it hurts at Tracy Morgan’s standup.

Monday, July 30

FOOD: It’s like a live reality show: two teams of student restaurant workers will pitch
their ideas for new restaurants during
Battle of the Bistros at Clyde’s Gallery Place. Local celeb judges will critique, and you’ll munch on appetizers
while you get a glimpse of the future. Tickets ($10) are available through Eventbrite.
6 PM.

Tuesday, July 31

KARAOKE: DC has proven it can communicate in 140-character spurts, but when you get offline,
do you have what it takes to hit the high notes with a live band?
DC Tweetup is hosting a live-band karaoke sesh at Wonderland Ballroom. Better bring your A-game—you
don’t know heckling till it’s broadcast online. Free. 7 PM.

Wednesday, August 1

SHOP: Thrift-store shopping has never been more popular.
Goodwill
knows that, which is why it’s hosting a three-day pop-up shop in the heart of Chinatown,
featuring the best in vintage fashion. Expect less of a crapshoot than your normal
thrifting, but similar prices. Open Wednesday through Friday, noon to 7.

Thursday, August 2

COMEDY:
Tracy Morgan arguably plays the funniest character on
30 Rock, and in person he’s not much different. He proved he was out of touch when he made
insensitive gay jokes last year, but it seems like his career is back on track. He’ll
hit the stage at the Howard Theatre—check out the spectacle. Tickets ($55) are available
online. 7:30 and 10 PM.
