This Week’s Food Events: Oktoberfest at Shake Shack, Night at the Yards, Breadmaking With Mark Furstenberg

Plus: Join "Washingtonian" for our Brunch and Bloodys breakfast, and taste 40 beers at Bull Run Park.

Shacktoberfest: Shake Shack, meet Oktoberfest. Drop by the Dupont location through Sunday for souvenir steins filled with the likes of ShackMeister Ale, and German-inspired dishes like currywurst and a cheddar brat burger—yes, it’s a burger topped with a cheddar bratwurst sausage.

Bourbon, cigars, and birds: Head to Jackson 20 on Wednesday at 7 for a family-style turkey feast. The Eco-Friendly Farms birds are prepared three ways—sous vide, slow-roasted, and fried—and served with Thanksgiving-inspired accompaniments. Better than family tradition: a post-dinner bourbon tasting and cigars. The dinner is $36 (cigars are extra), and can be reserved by calling 703-842-2790.

Beefy nonfiction: Charlotte Druckman cohosts a reception at Johnny’s Half Shell on Thursday from 6 to 8 PM along with chef-owner Ann Cashion and Top Chef alum Carla Hall for the release of Druckman’s new book, Skirt Steak: Women Chefs on Standing the Heat and Staying in the Kitchen. The $45 tickets include a copy of the book, cocktails and wine, and hors d’oeuvres from Cashion and Hall.

A Night at the Yards: Spend Friday night at the James Creek Marina on the Southwest Waterfront for the annual Night at the Yards, a benefit for Living Classrooms. A live Latin funk/soul band provides the tunes, while Van Gogh Vodka pours the cocktails and restaurants such as Matchbox and Rappahannock River Oysters bring the edibles. Tickets are available online for $112.

Breadmaking class: Learn your way around making fresh breads with Marvelous Market and Breadline founder Mark Furstenberg, who teaches a Saturday course from 11 AM to 1 PM at the Hill Center. Tickets are $85, and you can register online.

Party with us: We spent a few months researching Washington’s best breakfasts and brunches for our latest issue, and now we want to enjoy them with you. At our Brunch and Bloodys event, Saturday at the Long View Gallery from 11 AM to 1:30 PM, restaurants featured in the issue dish up the morning treats; there’ll also be lots of mimosas and a Bloody Mary competition.

Virginia is for drinkers: Bull Run Park in Centreville on Saturday and Sunday. Look for beers from more than 40 breweries, live music, munchies, and more. Tickets are $20 in advance, and include a commemorative tasting glass and four sampling vouchers (each additional are $1).
