Food Events This Week: A Forager Dinner, Holiday Cocktail Class, and Fleurir’s New Chocolate Shop

Cocktail week: You’ll have plenty of opportunities to exercise your liver with Repeal Day cocktailing next Wednesday, but why wait? Eater DC launches its first-ever cocktail week this week, and there are several drink specials around town at places like Hank’s on the Hill, Poste, and Wisdom.

Foraged feast: Nope, it doesn’t involve urban foraging, but Firefly hosts a Fall Forage Feast on Tuesday at 7. The four-course menu and accompanying cocktails are made with local ingredients that grow wild—think black trumpet mushrooms and dandelion greens—and show up in dishes such as roasted wild mushroom risotto with heirloom pumpkin. Call 202-861-1310 for reservations ($75 per person).

Dine out for a cause: Two Kimpton restaurants commemorate World AIDS Day this week with charitable specials. First, Jackson 20 offers a three-course, $35 menu on Wednesday, with 10 percent of all proceeds going toward the Northern Virginia AIDS Ministry. Then on Saturday, Zentan donates all proceeds from a special selection of appetizers, entrées, and cocktails to Whitman-Walker Health.

Decadent dinner: Go all out during a seven-course meal accompanied by Oregonian Chehalem wines at Plume on Friday, starting at 6:30. The lineup includes the likes of West Coast oysters with uni, roasted squab, and confit of salmon on potato blinis ($195 per person). Call 202-448-2300 for reservations.

Culinary benefit: On Friday, Cedar hosts a fundraiser and silent auction for Samantha Pecoraro, a 15-year-old girl who’s passionate about cooking but suffers from severe food allergies. Tickets for the five-course dinner are $150 for adults and $120 for children.

Chocolate party: Georgetown favorite Fleurir Chocolates officially completes its expansion this week, and is celebrating the opening of its Alexandria location at 724 Jefferson Street with a holiday party from noon to 6 on Saturday. Look for new treats such as gingerbread caramels, chocolate decorating for kids, a hot cocoa bar, a raffle, and more.

Holiday cocktail class: Go beyond store-bought eggnog and learn to make holiday-themed cocktails at the Green Pig Bistro at 3:30 on Saturday, courtesy of Scofflaw’s Den. (If you’re beholden to the premade nog, check out our recommendations/warnings.) Drink recipes include party-friendly punch, mulled wine, and a few cocktails. The class is $65.

Fall for flatbread: Master baker Mark Furstenberg teams up with Sri Lankan cookbook author Skiz Fernando to teach a class on an international array of flatbreads Saturday at the Hill Center from 11 to 1. Reservations are $85, and can be made online.
