The New Guard: Cameron Kilberg

Cameron Kilberg

Assistant Secretary of Technology, Commonwealth of Virginia

Not long ago, Silicon Valley was the only choice for a technology start-up trying to put down roots. Now Virginia has the nation’s highest concentration of tech workers, with nearly 10 percent of the state’s private sector employed by the industry. As Virginia’s assistant secretary of technology, Cameron Kilberg, 33, is working to bring even more tech businesses to the state through incentives and education.

Among other projects, Kilberg is helping run the first-ever Governor’s Cyber Challenge, a cybersecurity competition at George Mason University in which Virginia high-school students test their hacking skills for the chance to win scholarships totaling almost $10,000.
