Behind the Scenes: Inside the Washington National Opera’s Costume Studio Workroom

See what goes down at the WNO studios in Takoma Park.

The Washington National Opera stages its elaborate productions at the Kennedy Center, but long before opening night, the work begins in Takoma Park at the WNO Studios, which house three large rehearsal rooms, vocal-coaching areas, costume storage, and in particular the Costume Studio workroom. This is where a team of costumers and craft artisans prepare approximately 1,000 costumes for half a dozen operas each season.
