Try Free Ice Cream Sandwiches on GCDC’s New Patio

The stuff summer dreams are made of.

Grilled cheese/wine bar GCDC drew lines down the block when it opened in April, so we can only imagine what kind of crowd will arrive for free ice cream sandwiches on Wednesday, July 2. The White House area eatery plans to debut a 16-seat patio along with a new menu of “cheese ice cream sandwiches.”

No, we’re not talking chocolate-cheddar. The ice cream is made from cream cheese, vanilla, and spices, then infused with cocoa or fresh fruits. Instead of cookies you’ll find the scoops sandwiched between slices of brioche French toast. Flavors include cinnamon-apple, fresh strawberry and bourbon-vanilla, and chocolate-Grand Marnier. Like you would dunk a savory grilled cheese, the sandwiches come half-dipped in either chocolate ganache or caramel.

The cooling treats will be $7 each and served daily from 4 to 9, though on July 2 the first 40 customers can snag one for free.
