At these Virginia wineries you can spend a day sampling some of the state’s best vintages while the kids have so much fun they’ve forgotten the other kind of whine. (Obviously, designate an adult driver for these road trips!)

1. Tarara Winery

13648 Tarara La., Leesburg, VA

One of the oldest wineries in Loudoun County, Tarara offers big festivals on the weekends with plenty of games and activities for the kids. 

Don’t miss their Summer Concert Series, which runs through September 27. Tickets are $15 per person, but free for kids 7 and under.

Sip on this: Sample six or seven wines for $10 per person.

Hours: Monday – Thursday: 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Friday – Sunday: 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

2. Barrel Oak Winery

3623 Grove La., Delaplane, VA

Named one of the top family-friendly wineries by Wine Enthusiast, Barrel Oak welcomes kiddos with juice boxes and snacks.

Don’t miss acoustic and bluegrass music every weekend, plus TGI Sunset Specials every Friday, with $4 off wine bottles.

Sip on this: Receive 3 tastings for $3, 6 for $6, and 12 for $11. Or try a $24 premium table tasting.

3. Early Mountain Vineyards

6109 Wolftown Hood Rd., Madison, VA

This destination is the perfect addition to an overnight trip. The tasting room offers games such as Connect Four and Banana Grams, plus Oakencroft Farm juices, which are nonalcoholic but made from wine grapes.

Don’t miss the locally sourced menu, which features gourmet takes on kid-friendly staples like grilled cheese and peanut butter and jelly.
